Great news, Learning the Language readers!
I am thrilled to introduce you to Corey Mitchell, the newest member of the Education Week newsroom who jumped in on his first few days on the job to cover President Obama’s executive actions on immigration.
Soon, you’ll be seeing a lot of Corey’s work in this space as he leads Ed Week‘s coverage of English-language learners, bilingual education, immigration, and civil rights in education.
He’ll also be covering school districts, educational leadership, and school management issues, blogging with Denisa Superville over at District Dossier.
Corey last worked as a Washington correspondent for the Star Tribune, Minnesota’s largest newspaper. And in his prior work covering education, he documented the struggles of English-language learners in Minnesota classrooms, profiled an autistic teenager who became an overnight YouTube celebrity, and took readers inside a suburban school district plagued by student suicides.
Before coming to Washington, Corey spent more than a decade covering education, crime, breaking news, municipal government and social issues for newspapers in Michigan and Minnesota.
Send Corey (firstname.lastname@example.org) your English-language learner, bilingual education, and immigration story ideas and tips and follow him on Twitter @c_c_mitchell.
