Good morning, District Dossier readers.
I’m excited to introduce you to the newest member of the Education Week team, who will soon be writing in this space on a regular basis.
Veteran reporter Corey Mitchell, who most recently worked as a Washington correspondent for the Star Tribune, Minnesota’s largest newspaper, joins fellow Education Week reporter Denisa Superville on the school district news and leadership beats.
Corey will also lead our coverage of English-language learners, bilingual education, immigration issues, and civil rights. He’s already filed several posts about President Obama’s recent executive action on immigration over at the Learning the Language blog.
In his prior work covering education, Corey documented the struggles of English-language learners in Minnesota classrooms, profiled an autistic teenager who became an overnight YouTube celebrity, and took readers inside a suburban school district plagued by student suicides.
Before arriving in D.C., Corey spent more than a decade covering education, crime, breaking news, municipal government, and social issues for newspapers in Michigan and Minnesota.
A version of this news article first appeared in the District Dossier blog.
