Changes at the Charters and Choice Blog

Hello, everyone. Astute readers of this blog may have noticed a few changes in the past couple of weeks here, including the introduction of my headshot to the top right corner of the page, so I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself.

I’m Katie Ash, and I’ve been covering education technology for Education Week and Digital Directions for the past five years. I am now transitioning into the charter schools and choice beat here at EdWeek, which means you will see my name here covering the latest news from now on. But don’t worry, my colleague Sean Cavanagh will still be around, popping in to post some blogs about charters and choice topics, although he will be primarily blogging at the Digital Education blog.

Although my experience so far has been on the ed-tech side of things, there is quite a bit of crossover between technology and school choice. In the past, for instance, I’ve written about the intersection of school funding models for both charter schools and virtual education. And I’ve explored the creation of new, blended charter schools. So while I am familiar with the charter school landscape, I am excited to get to know it in much more detail and dig into the most pressing issues regarding school choice.

I am currently knee-deep in resources to help flesh out my knowledge about this beat, and I am open to any and all suggestions to get me up to date. What resources (besides Education Week of course) do you turn to for the latest on charter school news? What blogs or organizations are writing thoughtful and helpful analysis and commentary on this beat? What about charters and choice would you like to see covered more or less? Shoot me an email, and let me know.
