Twelve after-school leaders from around the country have been recognized by the Afterschool Alliance for their work in the field, the organization announced today.

These “Afterschool Ambassadors” are not only being recognized for their work, however. In the coming year, they will also serve as advocacy leaders promoting the importance of after-school programs through events, community building, and networking with policymakers. This is the 13th year the alliance has selected ambassadors.

States represented this year include: California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and Wyoming. (For a listing of the names of those awarded and their respective programs, look here.)

Two students participating in after-school programs were also recognized for their work. Art work by a student, Benny Tran, from San Francisco and another, Elora Scimone, from Bristol, N.H., were selected as winners from a pool of hundreds of submissions from after-school programs.
