Supporting Principal Instructional Leadership - Julio César Contreras

April 20, 2018 24:10

Julio César (JC) Contreras, the instructional leadership director for Oklahoma’s Tulsa Public Schools, shares strategies for supporting principals. This half-hour presentation took place at Education Week’s Leaders To Learn From event in Washington. Contreras was recognized in 2016 as a Leader to Learn From for his ability to partner with principals to improve instruction. Contreras worked for 11 years in the Chicago schools before coming to his current job in Tulsa in 2014. Both in Chicago and now in Tulsa, he learned to reject the temptation to micromanage his principals, which inhibits their ability to learn and think critically about their work.
