The National Rural Education Association hosts an annual convention and publishes a magazine, Country Teacher; a journal, The Rural Educator; and a newsletter, Rural Education News. An individual membership, which includes all the publications, costs $35 a year. A subscription to Country Teacher alone costs $5 a year. The U.S. Department of Education's STAR Schools Program provides inservice and instructional programs to isolated and underserved schools via satellite. The project also offers science kits. Grants are often available to offset program costs.
