Choice in Action
By every measure--attendance, test scores, high school admissions, and stability of staff--choice has proved successful in District 4. Furthermore, the district has gone from being one that teachers avoided to one that has attracted top talent.
Most of its new schools began with an idea held by one or two teachers--something they had always wanted a chance to do. The district gave them a chance. As it gave choice to teachers, it gave diversity to parents and kids. Everyone benefited.
