The Manhattan Beach, Calif., school district has settled a special education lawsuit for $6.7 million, bringing to an end six years of litigation between the district and the parents of a student with autism.
The parents, whose now-17-year-old son is still enrolled in a Manhattan Beach public school, contended that the district failed to provide the boy with proper reading, language, and socialization instruction, according to their lawyers.
In a press release on the Aug. 10 settlement, the 6,400-student district said that “while there may have been areas of disagreement in the past, both parties have negotiated intensively to produce this settlement agreement.”
