The Digital Transformation in Elementary Education

Remote learning during the coronavirus pandemic had a large impact on the instructional resources used to teach English-language arts, social studies, and science in elementary schools throughout the nation, results of a new nationwide survey suggest.

The survey, produced by the EdWeek Research Center and commissioned by children’s publisher Capstone, found that more than 70 percent of elementary educators increased their use of digital resources during the pandemic while more than half decreased their use of print-based instructional materials when teaching these subjects.

This white paper reports on the impact of this digital transformation, highlighting the resources educators are most likely to use, their perceptions of these tools, and the benefits and challenges they encountered as they infuse technology into the curriculum of our youngest learners.
