Nellie Aspel, the director of exceptional children for Cleveland County Schools, in Shelby, N.C., has launched several initiatives to improve students’ social-emotional wellbeing and increase resiliency. She’s also ensured funding to expand these programs, including for students with disabilities, in the rural North Carolina district. The goal?
