A few weeks ago, Education Week released an analysis of federal civil rights data on the use of corporal punishment in schools.
There were some big racial differences; black students received physical punishment at twice the rate of white students nationwide. We’re providing some more detailed data for those who want to dig into the disparities. (Note: The chart below cover only the 12 states where 1 percent or more of students are enrolled in schools that use corporal punishment.) As you can see, student groups other than black and white students were not always large enough to analyze their disparities separately.
