More than 200 students prepare climate change resolution
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — More than 200 students in Vermont ranging from elementary school to college plan to present a resolution to legislators calling on them to address climate change.
The students met at the Statehouse on Sunday for the very first Youth Climate Congress. Their resolution calls for goals such as a shortened timeline on eliminating fossil fuel use and expansion of subsides that would make renewable energy more accessible to low-income communities.
Some state representatives and senators listened in on the discussions and offered guidance for drafting the resolution.
The students plan to deliver the resolution to legislators on the first day of the 2020 session in January.
