FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A union that represents staff members at the Kentucky Education Association held an informational demonstration over contract negotiations.

The Courier Journal reports members of the Kentucky Education Association Staff Organization picketed Saturday in Frankfort a few blocks from the state Capitol where the KEA held massive protests aimed at lawmakers over teacher benefits earlier this year.

The Kentucky Education Association Staff Organization represents 53 KEA employees. A three-year contract expires at the end of the month.

Demonstrator Dennis Janes says the union believes it hasn't been treated fairly in negotiations and that the KEA wants to reduce its benefits.

KEA President Stephanie Winkler says she's optimistic that continued negotiations will result in a new contract.
