PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Police say they arrested a 15-year-old Maine high school student and charged him with terrorizing after he brought a pellet gun resembling a real handgun to school.

Police did not reveal the identity of the student, who attends Portland High School. They say the student was arrested on Thursday after administration learned the student had threatened to bring a gun to school.

A search of the student's backpack revealed the pellet gun. The student had not made specific threats to the school, staff or other students.

Police say the student was released to the custody of his parents. They say the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office will review the case, and Portland schools will determine if there will be any additional discipline.
