Teach For America is struggling with the fallout of recent growing pains, including recruitment challenges, which were apparently partly caused by a barrage of negative press it wasn't prepared for, says an analysis of the group's evolution.

The group's current leaders are trying to respond by giving the organization flexibility to improve corps members' satisfaction and customize preparation and professional development, concludes the report, issued this month by Bellwether Education Partners, a Washington-based consulting group.

Bellwether describes the report as offering lessons to other groups that are dealing with issues of growth and scaling-up.
