Calif. Governor Appeals Teacher-Tenure Ruling
Gov. Jerry Brown last week appealed the court ruling that struck down California's teacher-tenure laws.
Teachers' unions in the state subsequently filed their own appeal, claiming that the ruling was riddled with errors and "is without support in law or fact."
In Vergara v. California, Superior Court Judge Rolf M. Treu ruled that state laws on teacher tenure and dismissal unfairly saddled disadvantaged students with weaker teachers and infringed on those students' right under the state constitution to an equitable education.
The state's appeal criticizes the decision for its brevity and lack of detail regarding the factual and legal bases for the ruling.
