News in Brief
Many Head Start Providers Recompeted Successfully
The Head Start office has released the names of 114 grantees that will be awarded funds after a second batch of low-performing providers was required to recompete for the federal preschool money.
Under a new process that took effect in 2011, programs were to be evaluated on such items as deficiencies noted in monitoring reviews. In this second round, 122 low-performing grantees were asked to compete.
Many of the grantees on the latest “winners” list, released last month, appear to be the same that were asked to compete, indicating they were able to defend their grants. Not all programs were able to hold on to the aid.
