New York City teachers, counselors, paraprofessionals, and others who belong to the United Federation of Teachers approved a nine-year contract last week.
The new contract includes back pay dating to 2009 as well as new raises worth some 18 percent in total.
A new provision allots time previously used for instruction to teachers’ professional development. A career-ladder system for teachers isn’t well defined yet, while a pay incentive for teachers to go to hard-to-staff schools doesn’t require applicants to have the highest evaluation scores.
