Look to ‘Exceptional Plan’ for Rating Principals

To the Editor:

If teachers are to be held accountable for student progress, their administrators should lead the way. There already exists an exceptional plan to evaluate school administrators. Rate principals on pupil progress, staff improvement, community relations, and administrative ability, and they can ensure that teachers do their best in those same critical elements of teaching and learning.

This system of principal rating uses the best supervisory/evaluation principles, something principals need for teacher evaluation. These evaluation factors are weighted and can be adapted to any exceptional needs of school boards and superintendents. Pay for upcoming school years can be determined from final evaluation scores for each person. Give it a try.
