Five national public-policy organizations are cooperating on a multistate effort aimed at anchoring assessment and accountability systems in college- and career-readiness.

The project, called the College & Career-Ready Policy Institute, was jointly announced last week by the Washington-based organization Achieve Inc., the Austin, Texas-based Data Quality Campaign, the Washington-based EducationCounsel, Boston-based Jobs for the Future, and the Washington-based National Governors Association Center for Best Practices. It is being funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The collaborative effort is intended to provide Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio, and Tennessee—each of which was competitively chosen for their success in raising academic standards and graduation requirements—with guidance, support, and advice about building capacity and aligning state education policies to help all students graduate from high school ready for college and careers.
