Miami Board Approves Pact
The Miami-Dade County, Fla., school board last week approved a teachers’ contract that will raise starting salaries to $40,000 in the final year of the three-year agreement. Members of the United Teachers of Dade ratified the agreement last month. Teachers also will receive step raises automatically over the three years, instead of bargaining one year at a time. The district and union say the pact is designed to help the district attract and retain good teachers.
