More than four of every 10 parents of young children and more than six of every 10 adolescents do not believe their schools emphasize academic achievement, a report says.

In addition, more than five of every 10 students ages 10 to 21 believe that their education would be improved if their schools offered more preparation for the real world, more interesting subjects, and more choice concerning classes they can take, according to the report, which was produced by America’s Promise, an Alexandria, Va.-based network of organizations working to improve the lives of youths in the United States. The report is based on a survey of 2,000 students and 4,000 parents.
