Safety Training Clarified
In a letter to parents, officials of the Burleson, Texas, school district have responded to criticism of the district’s school safety training program, which has been portrayed in the news media as encouraging students to attack intruders or otherwise fight back against them. In the Oct. 20 letter, Superintendent Mark Jackson and many principals said the “critical incident response training” includes “chaos theory,” which is designed to create a diversion that allows students and staff members to escape a danger zone. But the district said that while some staff members have been trained in teaching students to attack intruders, that method has not been adopted by the district.
