Texas Bible Classes Seen to Lack Rigor
Public school Bible classes taught as electives in Texas often fail to meet minimal academic standards for teacher qualifications and curriculum, concludes a study by the Texas Freedom Network Education Fund, an Austin-based group that promotes religious freedom.
The study found that public school courses on the Bible in Texas often promote one faith perspective over all others and push an ideological agenda that is hostile to religious freedom and science. However, the study does note a handful of Texas school districts that offer Bible class electives that it says are taught in a nonsectarian, academically sound manner.
