News in Brief: A State Capitals Roundup
N.H. School Aid Law Rebuffed
A New Hampshire judge has again declared the state’s school funding law unconstitutional. In a March 7 ruling, Judge William J. Groff of Hillsborough County Superior Court said the 2005 law fails to meet its constitutional mandate to define an “adequate education.” He also faulted the law as unfairly allowing property-rich towns to retain and spend more tax dollars on schools than communities with weaker tax bases. The state is expected to appeal.
