Increased Education Spending Seen to Have Little Impact on Test Scores
Increased education spending per pupil does not appear to raise student test scores, a report concludes.
The report, published by the Washington-based American Legislative Exchange Council, says that, for example, per-pupil spending has grown by 78 percent over the past 20 years after adjusting for inflation, but 73 percent of American 8th graders are still performing below proficiency in mathematics, according to the 2003 National Assessment of Educational Progress.
The study also ranks the 50 states and the District of Columbia on the basis of results from state tests and other assessments.
