Twenty-six states did not make any new grants for after-school programs in 2005, according to a study by the Afterschool Alliance.

The Washington-based advocacy group claims that a lack of funding from the federal government for after-school programs hinders states from establishing new grants. Funding for after-school programs was promised under the No Child Left Behind Act, but has yet to be allocated by Congress and Presi-dent Bush, the report says.
