Romer Gets a Thumbs-Up
The Los Angeles school board has said that it wants Superintendent Roy Romer to stay for the final year of his contract. In making the Sept. 27 announcement, board President Marlene Canter told The Los Angeles Times that she wanted to make clear the board’s support for Mr. Romer, who has led the 747,000-student district since 2000. Some board members had reportedly sought to delay until December a decision on whether to renew his contract, which expires in June 2007.
