To the Editor:

I find it frightening that we are caving in to become a bilingual nation without a vote from American citizens ("Some Dallas Principals Must Learn Spanish," Sept. 7, 2005). The United States should have English as its official language. Immigrants should be given plentiful opportunities to learn English, and be encouraged to do so.

As a writer, I believe that clarity of communication in a common language strengthens our common bonds, and does not detract from our individual cultural heritages.
