More than half of American teenagers admit to having engaged in oral sex with a member of the opposite sex, a survey found.

“Sexual Behavior and Selected Health Measures: Men and Women 15-44 Years of Age, United States, 2002” is available from the National Center for Health Statistics.

The survey—produced by the Hyattsville, Md.-based National Center for Health Statistics, a division of the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention—found that among teenagers ages 15 to 19, 55 percent of males and 54 percent of females said they had had oral sex. In that same age group, 36 percent of males and 39 percent of females reported having had vaginal intercourse. The researchers surveyed 12,571 people between the ages of 15 and 44.
