News in Brief: A State Capitals Roundup
Parental Permission Not Required
The Georgia state board of education voted 10-3 on June 14 against a plan to require students to get their parents’ permission to join an extracurricular club. The issue arose when members of the Georgia legislature expressed concern that support groups for gay and lesbian students had been formed at a few high schools in the state. State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox then brought the issue before the board.
