Michael R. Deland

Michael R. Deland has become the president of the National Organization on Disability. He succeeded Alan A. Reich, the Washington-based organization’s founder.

Mr. Deland, 63, has been the chairman of the organization’s board of directors since 1995 and will continue to serve as chairman. He was also the chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality under President George H.W. Bush.

An advocacy group for people with disabilities, N.O.D. conducts an annual survey, in cooperation with Rochester, N.Y.-based Harris Interactive, to track the experiences of people with disabilities, including K-12 students.
