The appellate division of the New York State Supreme Court ruled May 3 that New York state does not have to comply with a court order to increase school aid in New York City while a higher court considers the state’s appeal, which is slated for October. In February, a trial judge ordered the state to raise spending in the 1.1-million student New York City schools, by up to 44 percent annually.
