News in Brief: A National Roundup
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded $5 million to the New York City schools to help them address students’ continuing social and emotional needs following the terrorist attack in the city on Sept. 11, 2001. The grant will provide $4 million for public schools and $1 million for nonpublic schools in the city for 18 months. The money is also intended to improve schools' ability to offer counseling to students.
