A recent poll of more than 600 likely voters in Nevada revealed overwhelming support for two education initiatives that will appear on the Nov. 2 ballot.

The statewide poll found that likely voters favored ballot Question 1, the Education First Initiative, by 66 percent to 26 percent. The measure would amend the state constitution by requiring legislators to finance K-12 education before all other agencies.

On Question 2, which would require the state to raise per-pupil spending to meet or exceed the national average by 2012, the poll found likely voters in favor by a majority of 71 percent to 24 percent.

The poll was conducted Sept. 20 through Sept. 28 by the Washington-based polling firm Belden Russonello & Stewart and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points. It was sponsored by the Las Vegas Sun, KLAS TV Channel 8, and KNPR Nevada Public Radio.
