Edison Schools Inc. Reports Growth in Number of Students Served
Edison Schools Inc. expects to nearly double the enrollment of students in its programs and schools this school year.
The for-profit education management company, based in New York City, announced that it will manage 157 schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia, serving more than 250,000 students, this year. Last year, Edison served 132,000 students.
Adam Tucker, Edison’s vice president of communications, said the increase was due, in part, to the federal No Child Left Behind Act, which has spurred the growth of after-school tutoring programs.
Newton Learning, the division of Edison that offers summer school, after-school, and supplemental education services such as tutoring, expects to serve 67,500 students.
