A chart in the Nov. 12, 2003, issue of Education Week on the 2004 Democratic presidential candidates ("The Democratic Contenders on Education,") imprecisely described retired U.S. Army Gen. Wesley K. Clark's connection to the Department of Defense Education Activity schools. As commander-in-chief of the U.S. European Command during the late 1990s, Gen. Clark oversaw logistical support to such schools in Europe, and he lobbied Congress for educational improvements. But the schools are part of a civilian agency within the Department of Defense that is overseen by the department's undersecretary for personnel and readiness, not the European Command.
A story in the Jan. 7, 2004, ("Funding Concerns Greet Legislatures As Sessions Begin") issue misspelled the name of Maryland state Sen. Patrick J. Hogan.
