Warlene D. Gary

Warlene D. Gary has been named the chief executive officer of the National PTA.

Ms. Gary, 56, left the Washington-based National Education Association, where she had served as the director of the human and civil rights division, to join the Chicago-based National PTA.

The 6-million-member PTA has 54 state-level affiliates and 23,000 local units.

Beth A. Milner

Beth A. Milner recently became the vice president of school programs for the test-preparation division of the Princeton Review.

Ms. Milner, 33, formerly served as the vice president of sales for the Bellevue, Wash.-based Apex Learning, which offers educators distance- learning courses, as well as online curriculum, assessment, and test- preparation materials.

The New York City-based Princeton Review's test- preparation division provides tutoring, courses, and online instruction to students in 41 states to help them prepare for undergraduate and graduate admissions tests.

Liliam Leis-Castillo

Liliam Leis-Castillo has been named the executive officer to the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District, a position that puts her in charge of developing small learning communities within the nation's second-largest school system.

Ms. Leis- Castillo, who previously served as the superintendent of Local District E, one of 11 districts within the 740,000-student Los Angeles schools, will also be in charge of the system's office of staff relations. That office oversees contract negotiations with employee unions.

In overseeing the district's initiative on small learning communities, Ms. Leis-Castillo will look for ways to break up large schools into smaller and more focused units, such as magnet programs and academies.
