William G. Andrekopoulos was recently picked to be the superintendent of the 92,300-student Milwaukee public schools.
Mr. Andrekopoulos, 54, succeeds Spence Korte, who retired in July.
Most recently, Mr. Andrekopoulos served as the principal of the 1,000-student Fritsche Middle School in Milwaukee.
His contract had not yet been made final, but Milwaukee district officials said the school board expected to negotiate a two-year contract with the new superintendent.
The McKenzie Group, a Washington-based educational consulting firm, recently named Ericka M. Miller as its executive director.
Ms. Miller, 37, previously served as the firm's director of organizational development and government relations. Before joining the McKenzie Group last year, she was an education legislative adviser to former U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey of Nebraska.
The McKenzie Group specializes in program evaluation and research, technical assistance, and resource mapping for school districts, government agencies, and other organizations.
New American Schools has hired Libia S. Gil to be its chief academic officer.
Ms. Gil, 55, starts her new job Oct. 1. She currently serves as the superintendent of the 25,000-student Chula Vista Elementary School District in Los Altos, Calif.
A nonprofit organization based in Alexandria, Va., New American Schools seeks to improve student achievement by promoting education programs and policies that it believes will improve schools.
