The National Education Association has hired Timothy C. Dedman to join the staff of its Teacher Quality Unit.
As a teacher-quality professional associate, Mr. Dedman, 39, will work on teacher-licensure issues and follow trends in professional teaching standards.
He served as the chairman of the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board before joining the NEA.
The Washington-based NEA, which represents about 2.6 million members, is the nation's largest teachers' union.
The National School Boards Association has promoted Joseph S. Villani to be its deputy executive director.
Before taking his new position with the Alexandria, Va.-based association, Mr. Villani, 55, was the NSBA's associate executive director of federation member services. He also worked for 26 years as a teacher and administrator in the Montgomery County, Md., school system.
The NSBA is an advocacy organization that provides information and programs to help the nation's local school board members serve their communities.
Peg L . Portscheller is the new executive director of the Colorado Association of School Executives.
Before beginning her new job, Ms. Portscheller, 53, served as the director of policy initiatives for the MidContinent Regional Educational Laboratory in Denver.
Based in Englewood, Colo., the school executives' group serves a network of more than 1,900 Colorado administrators. It seeks to help its members improve student achievement and educational leadership.
