Peggy H. O'Brien will be the new executive director of Cable in the
Classroom, an Alexandria, Va.-based organization financed by the
cable-television industry to provide more than 81,000 schools with
cable service. Ms. O'Brien, 53, currently is the chief learning and
operating officer for Kiko.com, an Internet education company in Long
Beach, Calif. She will start her new job next month.
The Reading Recovery Council of North America has elected Irene C. Fountas as its president. Ms. Fountas will begin her one-year term in July. She is a professor of education, and the director of the Center for Reading Recovery, at Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass. The Reading Recovery Council of North America is based in Columbus, Ohio, and provides reading and literacy programs and services for teachers, school board members, and parents.
Dennis M. Reardon became the executive director of the Ohio Education Association this month. Mr. Reardon, 58, will oversee the OEA's staff and general operations. He succeeds Robert Barkley, who retired earlier this year. Mr. Reardon served as the OEA's associate executive director before accepting the executive director's position. The state's largest association of public employees, the Columbus-based organization represents 126,000 members and is the state affiliate of the National Education Association.
