Kay Awalt Musgrove is the new president of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She was elected last month to serve a one-year term.
Ms. Awalt Musgrove, 54, is the associate superintendent for teaching and learning of the Franklin Special School District in Franklin, Tenn., which enrolls 3,800 students. She will continue to hold that position during her term as president.
The ASCD, based in Alexandria, Va., is a 160,000-member nonprofit organization that provides information and professional- development services for curriculum and supervision issues.
The Akron, Ohio, school board has appointed Sylvester Small as superintendent of the 31,000- student district. He is currently the assistant superintendent of the district, and will assume the duties of superintendent in the next few weeks.
Mr. Small, 52, will succeed Superintendent Brian Williams, who will retire before the end of the school year.
Mary Yakimowski was recently elected the president of the National Association of Test Directors. She assumed her duties April 14 and will serve a one-year term.
Ms. Yakimowski, 41, will be based in Hampton, Va., where she will continue to serve as the director of assessment and instructional support for the 23,500- student Hampton public schools. She is also an adjunct professor of education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va.
The NATD is an organization of directors of assessment in K-12 public schools.
