The Council for Advancement and Support of Education has named Vance T.
Peterson as its president. The Washington-based association supports
the work of professionals in alumni relations, fund raising, and public
relations at more than 3,000 colleges, universities, and private
schools in 42 countries.
Mr. Peterson, 55, has served as the president of Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nev., since 1996. He will begin his job in January.
Richard Thornton, the chief executive officer of Triage Communications in Rineyville, Ky., is the new president of the 1,700-member National School Public Relations Association. He took his post last month.
Mr. Thornton will serve as the president of the Rockville, Md.-based group for one year. The association provides communications training and services to school leaders nationwide.
The American Federation of Teachers has named Michael S. Benner as its general manager for financial operations.
Mr. Benner is a former chief of staff and executive assistant to the president of the American Postal Workers Union. He began his new job last month.
The AFT represents more 1 million teachers and other personnel.
Richard A. DiPatri has been appointed the superintendent of the 70,000-student Brevard County, Fla., district.
Mr. DiPatri, an educator in New Jersey for 30 years, was previously the state district superintendent of schools in Jersey City, N.J.
