George F. Garcia

George F. Garcia has been named the superintendent of the 27,000-student Boulder Valley public schools in Boulder, Colo. Mr. Garcia, 57, is currently the superintendent of the 63,000-student Tucson, Ariz., district. He was Arizona’s superintendent of the year for 1998.

James Harris has been chosen the superintendent of the 17,000-student Inglewood Unified School District in California. He is a former superintendent of the 47,000-student Buffalo, N.Y., public schools.

The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development has selected LeRoy E. Hay as the president of the 165,000-member organization, which is based in Alexandria, Va. Mr. Hay, 56, is the assistant superintendent for instruction for the 7,100-student Wallingford public schools in Connecticut. He was the National Teacher of the Year in 1983.

Lawrence J. Johnson

The University of Cincinnati has appointed Lawrence J. Johnson the dean of the college of education. Mr. Johnson, 46, has served as the interim dean since last fall. He was also an associate dean of research and development at the college and the executive director of the university’s Arlitt Child and Family Research and Education Center.

Alan D. Bersin

Alan D. Bersin has been appointed by Gov. Gray Davis to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The commission oversees teacher and administrator licensing. Mr. Bersin, 53, is the superintendent of the 141,000- student San Diego district.
