Eve M. Bither plans to retire July 1 from her post as the executive director of the National Educational Research Policy and Priorities Board. She has held that position at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington for four years.
In her 29-year career in education, Ms. Bither, has also served as the acting director of the department’s office of reform assistance and dissemination and as Maine’s commissioner of education from 1987 to 1992. She began her career as a high school physics teacher in Portland, Maine.
The Carnegie Corporation of New York has appointed Daniel Fallon as the chair of its education division, effective Aug. 1.
Mr. Fallon, 61, currently works at the University of Maryland College Park as the interim director of the office of international affairs and as a professor of psychology and public policy. He previously served as the university’s provost and the vice president for academic affairs.
David H. Larson has been tapped to serve as the executive director of the West Hartford-based Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents.
Mr. Larson, 56, will retire from his post as the superintendent of the 4,900-student Middletown public schools this summer. He has worked as an educator in the Connecticut public schools for 35 years and was selected as the state’s superintendent of the year in 1998.
The Council of Chief State School Officers, based in Washington, has appointed Marie J. Terova as the director of personnel and member services.
Ms. Terova previously worked for the Tobacco Institute as the director of administration and meetings.
