President Clinton has appointed Susan D. Auld and reappointed James R. Houghton, Paul F. Cole, and Alan L. Wurtzel to the National Skill Standards Board. Ms. Auld is the president of Auld, Bishop & Adams Capital Strategies in Montpelier, Vt., and has served as the commissioner of the Vermont Department of Employment and Training and as a Vermont state representative. Mr. Houghton was elected chairman of the NSSB in April 1995 and is the chairman of the board emeritus of Corning Inc. in Corning, N.Y. Mr. Cole, of Albany, N.Y., is the secretary-treasurer of the New York State AFL-CIO and a vice president of the American Federation of Teachers. Mr. Wurtzel is the vice chairman of the board of Circuit City Stores in Richmond, Va.

On July 1, David Goin will become the superintendent of the Edmond (Okla.) School District. Mr. Goin, 44, is currently the 17,000-student district's associate superintendent.

Mary Barter will take over as superintendent of the
4,500-student Durango, Colo., district on Aug. 1. Ms. Barter, 56, has
been a superintendent for 19 years, most recently at the Three Village
Central School District in Manhasset, N.Y. She is a member of the
executive committee of the American Association of School
Administrators.

Inabeth Miller has been appointed the president of the JASON Foundation for Education, a nonprofit group that supports distance-learning projects. Ms. Miller is a former vice president of academic affairs for Massachusetts Communications College.

Constantine "Deno'' William Curris will become the president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities on Oct. 1. Mr. Curris, 59, is now the president of Clemson University in South Carolina, where he is also a professor of public policy.
