Jeff Weaver, the superintendent of schools in Topeka, Kan., has been named superintendent of the 7,400-student Eanes Independent School District in Austin, Texas. In his 5 1/2 years in Topeka, he has overseen the implementation of a court-ordered desegregation plan, the passage of two bond issues, and the creation of a strategic plan for the 14,000-student district.
Mr. Weaver, 50, is scheduled to take up his new duties April 5. He will replace Geoffrey Phillips, who left in August to become the superintendent of the Barrow County, Ga., district. Mr. Weaver’s replacement in Topeka has not been chosen.

Thomas Reece has been elected to a third term as the president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers. Mr. Reece has been the president of the 75,000-member union since 1994, when he replaced the late Jacqueline B. Vaughn. Mr. Reece, who is also the president of the Chicago Teachers’ Union, started his career as a science teacher at the Walt Disney Magnet School in Chicago.

Gary F. Hess is the new president of the school division of Tudor Publishing, a San Diego-based company that develops educational software. Mr. Hess previously was the vice president of sales development and training at Harcourt Brace Educational Measurements in San Antonio. He has also been a teacher, counselor, college professor, and coach.
Classroom Connect has named Judith Hamilton its chief executive officer. The education resource company, based in El Segundo, Calif., markets technology for classroom use. Previously, Ms. Hamilton, 54, was the president and CEO of the San Jose-based Dataquest Inc. Gail Lovely has been appointed the product strategist for Classroom Connect. Ms. Lovely, 41, was a teacher in several California districts, including the Los Angeles Unified School District. She was also the president of Technology and Learning Consultants, based in Canyon County, Calif.
