An article in the June 18 issue of Education Week on the performance of U.S. 4th graders in the Third International Mathematics and Science Study should have made clear that the subject in which U.S. boys scored, on average, 12 points higher than girls was science, not math.

A news brief in the June 18 issue on a voluntary buyout program for employees of the Detroit public schools did not clearly state how much early retirees will be paid. They will receive 65 percent of one year's base pay in installments over 10 years, in addition to their pensions.

A letter to the editor in the June 18 issue should not have conveyed the impression that its writer, Susan Staub, the president of Pennsylvania Right to Work Inc., was speaking for the National Right to Work Committee.
