Founder of American Montessori Movement Dies

Nancy McCormick Rambusch, the founder and first president of the American Montessori Society, has died.

The Milwaukee native died of pancreatic cancer on Oct. 27 in Princeton, N.J. She was 67.

Ms. Rambusch was an expert on early-childhood education. She advocated a modified version of the Montessori method, based on the philosophy of the late Italian educator Maria Montessori.

Her extensive writings on early-childhood education include the book Learning How To Learn: An American Approach.
