Migrant-Education Program
Final Regulations
The Education Department last week published amended rules for the Chapter 1 migrant-education program. The rules, which appear in the May 30 Federal Register, correct errors and replace misleading language in the original regulations, which were published Oct. 23, 1989.
Drug-Free Workplace
Final Regulations
Final regulations for the governmentwide drug-free-workplace initiative were published in the May 25 Federal Register. The rules include numerous clarifications to interim rules published in January 1989, as well as a separate Education Department notice clarifying how the rules apply to student-aid programs.
Research Laboratories
Request for Proposals
The Education Department is now accepting applications to operate 10 regional educational-research laboratories, including a new lab for the Pacific Basin. Proposals must be submitted by June 18, according to a notice in the May 30 Federal Register.
